About This Camp & Activity
Laying brick floors in stone dust: Learn by doingDo your dreams involve a new or repaired brick patio that you want to lay yourself? The Washington County Historical Trust is hosting this workshop as part of the restoration of the Saylor House in Kiwanis Park. The Saylor House was built around 1800 on the banks of the Antietam. The kitchen will serve as a classroom and gathering place for activities associated with historic buildings, historic building skills for repair and maintenance, environmental education and outdoor recreation. The kitchen in the Saylor House originally had a brick floor which is being reinstalled. Join our restoration specialists and learn how to properly lay a brick floor in stone dust so that it does not heave or sink. This technique is the same as laying an outdoor permeable brick or stone patio. The work will include all the steps: preparing and installing the stone base, stone dust layer, laying the bricks in several patterns and finishing the floor. You will be amazed when you walk on the floor you helped lay!Date: The workshop, hosted by the Washington County Historical Trust is a 3 Saturday workshop on May 7, 14 & 21 from 9am – 3pm. Lunch, snacks and water are provided. Please register, no fees are collected at registration. The Washington County Historical Trust will contact you with workshop specific information.Cost: The $225 fee for 3 days covers materials, lunch and snacks. The fee is payable to the Washington County Historical Trust at the first day of the 3-day workshop.Class Size: The workshop is limited to 6 participantsMore information is available by contacting info@wchistoricaltrust.org
