About This Camp & Activity
Step into the living story of Napa Valley on a guided hike through Alston Park, one of the city’s most beautiful and unspoiled open spaces. Spanning 157 acres of rolling oak savannah, wetlands, and creek-carved hills, Alston Park offers sweeping views, abundant wildlife, and a landscape shaped by ancient volcanoes and inland seas. Along the trail, you’ll encounter native Valley and Coast Live Oaks, seasonal wildflowers, soaring Red-tailed Hawks, Great Blue Herons, and the quiet hum of a thriving natural ecosystem preserved for future generations. This docent-led walk also brings the park’s rich human history to life—from the first Wappo inhabitants who relied on acorns, deer, and obsidian tools, to Spanish-Mexican ranching, Napa’s early settlement, and the community effort that protected Alston Park from development. Learn how geology, culture, and conservation intersect in this remarkable place, and discover why Alston Park remains a treasured refuge for both people and nature. Join us for an engaging, informative hike that deepens your connection to Napa’s land, past, and present Alston Park is located at 2037 Dry Creek Road. Please wear appropriate shoes and dress for weather. Please bring water. Children under 15 must be accompanied by adult.
