Orinda Youth Sports (OYS) Soccer

About This Camp & Activity

Welcome to Orinda Youth Sports (OYS). Our 1st grade league is designed to introduce players to the foundational strategies of soccer in a fun, supportive environment. Through weekly practices, players build essential skills such as passing and shooting, while also developing important life skills like teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship. Teams practice once per week, M-F, with games held on Saturdays. All games are played in a 6v6 format without goalkeepers, allowing for more touches on the ball, increased engagement for each player. Teams are formed starting with school location, in addition to taking into consideration factors such as coach availability, grade level, player numbers, and scheduling needs, along with randomization to ensure fairness across all teams. All teams are coached by volunteer parents/guardians. Anyone interested in volunteer coaching can put down interest on the registration prompts, and you will be emailed about next steps once registration closes.  Practices begin August 24th, and games start August 29th. The season runs for 9 weeks and includes 8 games, as no games will be scheduled over Labor Day weekend. Possible Practice Locations: Glorietta Elementary, Sleepy Hollow Elementary, Del Rey Elementary, Orinda Intermediate School Upper Field, and Orinda Sports Field. ***11 players per team maximum. The times listed on the catalog DO NOT REFLECT the actual practice and game times for the season. Practice and game schedule will be released 2 weeks before the season. Practices are afterschool at 4:00pm or 5:00pm.*** ***NO GAMES ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5th AND NO PRACTICES ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th. If necessary, make-up week will be Monday, October 26th - Saturday, October 31st.***
