Drum RootsDrum Roots is for students who have completed Tools of Rock or are new to the drums. TECHNIQUE: Stick grip and rebound strokeFoot pedal technique (heel up/down)Good position on the drums (good playing position with hands & feet)PostureRight hand/left handMUSIC SKILLS:Steady beat/pulse (sharing the beat, counting the beat, how we use it to keep the music together)Play basic songs as a groupExposure to simple drum notation (recognize quarter and eighth notes) DRUM SKILLS: Know the names of the parts of the drumset (and their sounds)Basic rudiments: flam, alternating stroke (single stroke)Play the basic fillPlay a steady groove in time with snare and bass drumPlay the basic rock groove in time with snare, bass, and cymbalStudents will perform in a concert with their class during concert week, December 5-10
