About Camp
This course welcomes students who like to write, and who are excited to see the worlds in their imaginations come to life on the page. Song lyrics, poetry, fantasy or sci fi, short stories, and even some creative nonfiction – we will try them all. In this class, students will share work with other student writers, explore the work of professional writers and, most importantly, become better at their craft. On the fiction end, they’ll learn more about characterization, setting and plot development to keep their readers glued to the page. On the nonfiction end, students will write accurate prose about real people and real events in a compelling, vivid and dramatic manner, and on the poetry side, students will learn about sounds and senses, free verse and formal. We’ll go deep in the jungle of sound where no prose can follow.
