About Camp

Following a fast-food rest stop, you will arrive in Jersey City, NJ at Liberty State Park to begin a look back at our country's heritage and history. After boarding the ferry, your first stop will be at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. During your self-guided tour you will have the opportunity to discover what our ancestors went through as they entered the Port of New York and Ellis Island through pictorial, video/audio, and interactive exhibits at the museum. Providing a moving experience to its visitors, the museum's exhibits chronicle Ellis Island's role in immigration history. Lunch will be on your own and you may choose to have a cafeteria style lunch at either Ellis Island or Liberty Island. Next, board the New Jersey Ferry once again and take a short cruise to Liberty Island, home of the Statue of Liberty. For more than 125 years, Lady Liberty has stood for freedom and democracy as well as international friendship. A gift from France in recognition of our cooperative efforts during the American Revolution, it resides on the threshold of where more than 25 million people entered the new world as immigrants. The Statue of Liberty started out as a design by a French sculptor in 1876 in commemoration of the centennial of the Declaration of Independence. It took nearly 10 years to be funded, built and shipped to America. Now residing on Liberty Island, she welcomes young and old, male and female, and people of all nationalities to the New York harbor to learn about her history and symbolism. While on Liberty Island visit the Statue of Liberty Museum for a self-guided experience that features three interactive galleries that tell the statue's history in thought-provoking ways. Liberty's most iconic symbol, the original torch, is housed inside one of the three galleries, Inspiration Gallery. Visit the immersive Theatre and embark on a breathtaking, virtual fly through of the Statue's interior and enjoy a captivating multimedia adventure that introduces you to the sweeping story of lady Liberty and the ideals she represents. Be sure to board the New Jersey Ferry no later than the 4:30 p.m. back to Liberty State Park to depart for home. You will make a non fast-food dinner stop en route home at your expense.*Located at each ferry boarding location is a timed departure and arrival schedule.
