"The Sound of a Partnership: Rodgers and Hammerstein's Musical Legacy"Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II initiated of the "golden age" of musical theater. They are the writers of classic musicals including "Oklahoma," "Carousel," "South Pacific," "The King and I," and "The Sound of Music." The productions and songs have had enduring popularity. We will explore how Rodgers & Hammerstein's advances in drama and character development were a sharp break from the past that created a template on which all future musicals would be built. We also will explore the personality differences of the two men and what made them the greatest musical theater writing partnership of the 20th century. Lovers of Musical Theatre and the Great American Songbook alkie will enjoy this class!
